6th January, 2013 Pett Level to Dungeness

We first called into Pett Levels but with a mist which made viewing difficult and the following were seen. 8 Red-throated Divers, 8 Razorbills W, c60+ Curlews, 4 Grey Plovers, 2 Brent Geese E, 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls one of which was colour-ringed, 1 Ruddy Duck  plus an assortment of Gadwall etc.

We next visited Rye Harbour and walked the usual circuit, and also visited the viewing site on Castle Water. 1 Merlin chasing a Skylark, 3 Little Egrets, good numbers of Golden Plovers and Lapwings, 1 Spotted Redshank 5 Common Snipe, 2 Marsh Harriers and heard 2 Cetti's

We then stopped off at North Point gravel pit and Scotney but little of interest was seen other than common ducks and geese although 2 Egyptian Geese were useful for my year list.

Onto Dungeness where we had time to visit ARC pit and the fishing boat beach. 2 Great White Egrets gave good views, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Smew including a fine drake, c6 Goldeneyes, 1 3rdW Glaucous Gull, 1 Bonxie, and 4 Tree Sparrows at the feeders.
