1st January, 2013 Beachy Head, Arlington Reservoir & Lewes

On the journey to Beachy, a Barn Owl flew across the A26 at Beddingham and was an excellent start to the New Year. Did an hour sea-watching with the highlight being 4 Velvet Scoters W @08.40, plus the usual selection of sea-birds. Little seen on our walk around Birling and Belle Tout area. On our way to Lewes, we stopped off at Arlington Reservoir where the Slavonian Grebe showed distantly along the far bank, good numbers of Wigeon, and 3 Mistle Thrushes were seen on the walk along the Reservoir lane. Brief stop off at Lewes where 10 Waxwings were fly-catching from the poplars, and 4 Common Buzzards past overhead.
